Wolverhampton company wins national award

Born Communication, a graphic design company based in the SP/ARK business incubator at Wolverhampton Science Park has won the “UK Business Incubation (UKBI) Incubatee of the Year Award.”

The company is a partnership between Kaye Hopkins and Mark Yorke who met whilst studying for their degrees in Graphic Communication at the University of Wolverhampton.

With support from SP/ARK and their tutor they set up a graphic design business specialising in the education sector and have now worked on projects with local councils, arts and education organisations and arts into health groups. Both Mark and Kaye feel that without SP/ARK, setting up a business straight out of university would have been too risky and they may not have done it.

Kaye Hopkins, Born Communication, said: “We are thrilled to have won the UKBI Incubatee of the Year Award and feel that this is an important acknowledgement for Born and SP/ARK. The support we have received through our association with SP/ARK has been integral to the development and success of our business. We hope that by winning this award we will show that SP/ARK is a successful incubation project and it will encourage more creative businesses and entrepreneurs to find out about the services offered here.”

The annual awards give UKBI, the body for the advancement of good incubation practice, the opportunity to reward those who strive to support world class businesses and entrepreneurs, impacting on local, regional and national economies whilst at the same time creating a sustainable environment for the future.

SP/ARK, provides facilities, accommodation, training and mentoring for business starters and freelancers in new media and design and is equipped for specialists in multimedia, graphics, video and sound design, 2D and 3D animation, textile and interior design, screening, projection and presentation design.

SP/ARK is funded by Advantage West Midlands, the European Regional Development Fund and Wolverhampton Science Park Ltd.
