Wolverhampton students perform at ArtsFest

Students from the University of Wolverhampton will be thrilling the crowds at the UK’s biggest free arts festival.

The groups and artists from the Music Department will be performing at Birmingham ArtsFest this weekend.

On Saturday, Realtanna will perform a mix of Irish folk music and medieval plainchant in the Industrial Gallery at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery at 1pm. Third year indie band Liken will perform their own music at the Flapper Firkin, also at 1pm.

The Outfit, made up of postgraduate music students, will perform classic funk from the 70s and 80s at The Yardbird at 3.30pm.

On Sunday, third year student Kim Harris, a singer-songwriter in the style of Katie Melua and KT Tunstall, will take to the stage in Gallery 17 of the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery at 1pm.

Anne-Marie Treacy, Senior Lecturer in Music at the School of Sport, Performing Arts and Leisure, said: “It is the biggest representation that the University has had at Artsfest so far.

“This year we will also have an information stand promoting the University of Wolverhampton, particularly Music Department courses, in Upper New Street.”

ArtsFest is now in its 10th year. The country’s largest free arts festival is organised by Birmingham City Council and will take place on Friday 14 to Sunday 16 September.
